Can't create network between host and guest

Post by Tech »

Sorry, I speak English but very badly (but just a little).

I need to create network connection between host machine and guest virtual machine installed on it.

VirtualBox version - 2.1.0

Host OS is Vista Home Premium
Guest OS is Ubuntu 8.10

Here that I did:

I go to the network adapter setting on mi host machine and enable VirtualBox Host Interface Networking Driver. Also i entered ip adress 10.40.0.1.

Then i go to the virtual machine settings (in VirtualBox), and choose:

Adapter Type: PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973);
Attched to: Host Interface
Mark right interface in "Host Interfaces" window.

Then i starting virtal machine, go to their network properties and entered ip adress 10.40.0.2.

So - network is not woking. In host machine i see thet "network cable is unplugged" for selected interface, and ping shows 100% loss.

Please, help me if you can.

If the cable is unplugged, the interface is brought down so it's not accessible. If you need Guest <> Host communications, install the MS loopback interface and set it up like your physical interface.
