external HDD will not mount after being used in guest Window

Post by pecenac »

Hi

Ive installed virtualbox 2.1.0 and succesfully enabled the USB support. Then Ive installed windows XP as gust OS in which Ive been using and extrnal USB HDD. After shutting down the vBox my host operating system (Kubuntu 8.10) does not mount the harddrive. The problem persists even after shutdown and restart of both computer and the hard drive. I can see the hadr drive in the New Device Notifier plasmoid in KDE 4, but it doesnt mount.

I dont really need to be able to use my HDD in the guest OS, but I really need to be able to use it in my host system.

Thank you

Did you "Safely Remove" the USB drive in XP before shutting down the VM?
Linux can be very finicky about that.

Indeed, run the mount command from a terminal, so you see what is wrong. Be sure that your drive is detected (check lsusb and /dev/sd*).
