Virtual Box on Windows 7
Virtual Box on Windows 7
I know it's not really been though of but I thought I'd try Virtual Box under Windows 7.
So, I installed Windows 7 64 bit, installed VB and then pointed a new VM to my existing Vista 32 bit disk file. Started it up and it hung. It was at the point where the green lines are going across the middle of the screen - so my guess is some driver doesn't like it.
The 32 bit vista disk file works fine in a VM under Vista 64 bit.
So, is it Windows 7 or did I do something stupid?

Dont expect support for beta software.
It may work or not, in your case not.
So forget it and wait until there is a VBOX Version supporting Windows 7 Hosts.

Kinda works
I got Windows 7 installed in a VirtualBox (Host machine Windows XP)... not a problem really, except you can't Ctrl/Right to get your cursor out of the program. I used the Vista option. I'm running 32 bit on everything.
The Guest Additions is not supported...but I didn't think it would be.
I will most likely install it on another machine because of the cursor/mouse issue, but it let me play with it and get familiar with it.

64 bit Windows 7, 64 bit Virtualbox, 32 bit XP.
For some reason things look weird in XP almost like the colormap from the host is bleeding into the guest --but that could be due to the fact that I'm using a laptop and I'm not used to seeing how XP looks on a laptop.
I've installed guest additions, there's some taskbar flicker when I maximize the guest window -so far going into seamless mode appears to fix that.
As far as not running VB on Windows --that would be good advice for people expecting support, but not quite so good when it comes to people reporting their experiences. Especially since it's a public beta; meaning that it's been released with the expectation of getting tested out in the wild, with different applications (such as virtualbox).

i got it installed finally. First i tried installing 2.1 which gave me an unexpected error. So i tried 2.06 which installed fine. I then reinstalled 2.1 and no problems. Copied the virtualbox folder from my vista x64 to my win7 x64. All vm's start up and sofar i haven't found any real diff, perhaps maybe it's a bit slower on startup.

I'm wondering how you were able to get AERO running with Virtual Box.
I have VB 2.1.0 on XP Pro 32 bit. I installed the Win 7 build 7000 beta and then guest additions (via the compatibility mode tip) and have my screen set at 1400x1050 at 32 bit color.
But I cannot seem to get Aero to work.
Is there some details you can share about how you were able to be successful with the process.
I'd really appreciate it if you could expand on that a little so we can all maybe benefit from it.
Thanks
