VirtualBox loses Internet connection after 10 minutes

I have used VirtualBox 1.5 and 2.1 to provide a Windows 2000 guest on a Mandriva 2008.1 host. In both cases the Win2k guest gets an Internet connection for 10 minutes and then the Internet connection dies. All other functions work fine on the guest.
Is this related to DHCP ? How can I debug this ?

Please give some more information. Like what network settings do you have in the VM? Is the Host affected as well? Can you access other network resources with the Guest (if you use NAT, like the Host on 10.0.2.2)?

I must say that I am really pleased with VirtualBox apart from this little problem ! In fullscreen mode it works just like a normal Windows 2000 (SP4) PC, with all features working fine.
ping 10.0.2.2 from the Win2k guest returns a connection OK even after the Internet connection dies.
VirtualBox network options :
Enable Network Adapter : ticked
Adapter type : PcNet-FAST III (Am79c973); (I tried the others with same result)
Attached to : NAT
Network Name : blank
Cable Connected : ticked
Host Interface : eth0
Win2k network options (appears to be setup by VirtualBox) :
Obtain IP address automatically
Obtain DNS server address automatically
DHCP enabled
The Linux host has no problem remaining connected to the Internet, via cable eth0, using a Motorola Surfboard cable modem and the forcedeth ethernet driver.
The Internet connection works fine on the Win2k guest for about 6-10 minutes and then dies. If I shut down the guest and reboot, the Internet connection returns for another 6-10 minutes.
The same thing happens whether or not I have the firestarter firewall running on the Linux host.

Please use code blocks when possible when you post terminal output. The log file should be uploaded on
pastebin, as the forum isn't made for these long posts.
What happens if you 'repair' the connection in the Guest? Right click on the network connection and select Repair. Do you have internet after that? If you do, check if an
ipconfig /renew also works and if it does, you can create a script you can run when it fails again.
Another thing you can try, is to use the Intel/Pro1000 network card. Download the driver from the intel site and install it.

Right-Click on the network icon on the guest only shows adapter1. nothing else.
It dispalys "Adapter 1 (NAT) cable connected".
ipconfig /renew on Win2k guest does not help.
ipconfig on Win2k guest displays :
DNS suffix = my cable provider's url;
displays ip address = 10.0.2.15
default gateway = 10.0.2.2
To me the problem appears to be on the Linux host. It appears to stop responding to the guest. But how to debug ? Just trying things at random is pointless.
