VirtualBox broken in my xp sp3 host machine!

Post by den583105 »

I used VirtualBox 2.1.0 version in my xp sp3 host machine system, I found the follow problem: when I run ubuntu 8.10 as the guset machine, if I chose the network as "Host Interface" type, the host machine will reboot immediacy whithout any prompt just click the "start" button to run the guest machine. But if I chose "NAT" as the network type, both work fine, I had tye many times, I didn't weather it's a bug of only broken in my host machine!
The guest was created by VirtualBox V2.0.2, I haven't test other guest machine, did you have the same problem as me?

VB 2.1.0 has a few bugs, including the one you mention. For some people, using the new HIF system causes a BSOD and the system reboots. This can be either the VB HIF driver, or the network driver itself that doesn't allow this kind of approach.
If you really want to use HIF, downgrade to 2.0.6 until 2.1.2 is released that should have these bugs fixed.

FYI SP3 isn't the cause of this problem, it's likely something you haven't mentioned (Host Interface works fine for me in XP SP3 32bit).
