VirtualBox 2.1 on Mandriva 2009.0 won't start

Post by Atavist »

I've installed VirtualBox 2.1.0 in Mandriva 2009.0 using the "All distributions" package (VirtualBox-2.1.0-41146-Linux_x86.run) because there isn't a package for Mandriva 2009.0 listed on the download page. It seems to have installed correctly (it told me that it had in the Konsole terminal window), then I added myself to the newly created vboxusers group and re-booted, but when I try to start VirtualBox from the new menu item that was created, it shows itself in the task bar for a few moments and then silently terminates. Where would I look to try and determine the problem?

You can at first check the log file of the VM itself. Open a terminal or file manager and browse to ~/.VirtualBox/Machines/<vm name>/Logs.

If that doesn't give you the needed info, then perhaps one of the system logs can give you some. They are in /var/log.

Thanks. Mandriva self-destructed in a kernel upgrade this morning, so I get to start over. I'll know where to look next time, though. :(
