Update from 1.x.x to 2.x.x

Hi!

I would like to update my old VB-Installation (Host: WinXP) to the newest version.

This makes me wonder, what the best practice to do this is:
Since the release of 2.0.0, there might be some problems upgrading from a previous version (1.x.x). If you want to upgrade, fully remove the old version and then install the new one.

I have 4 VMs, some of them with multiple vdi's linked - and some of these are defined as write-through-disks.

If I really have to uninstall and reinstall VB, is there any way to save the settings?
I remember that (for example) the write-through-info was gone, after I reinstalled my pc and linked the vdi to the new build VM.

Is there any way to keep my settings?

Uninstalling VBox leaves your .VirtualBox directory, VMs, VDIs, etc. intact.

When you install the latest version then it will pick up this directory and its context. The Q is which version to upgrade to 1.6.6 is stable, so is 2.0.6. Version 2.1 has some really nice features but some annoying bugs. My recommendation is that unless there is an urgent need to upgrade, I'd wait a few weeks until 2.1.2 comes out.
