can't find an USB scanner under windows xp

I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 in VirtualBox. VirtualBox runs under Vista.
I have a scanner that scans much better with an older driver but the older driver does not work in Vista 64-bit. I used the scanner in Windows XP well so I'd like to see if I can get the same result with VB.

I enabled the USB in Settings and the added 2 unknown devices filters (from the list):
1. Unknown device 04F2:B012 [0346]
2. Unknown device 05DA:0086 [0100]
I also tried the empty filter, but my scanner is still not recognizable in VirtualBox.

Please help! Thanks.

All USB devices should be able to be passed on the the VM. The only issue is that not all devices work as they should in the Guest. Storage devices however should be no problem. I don't know about printer and scanners, or any other device for that matter, as I don't use them like that.

I logged a bug against VB 2.1 recently as USB devices seem to get "stuck" at the point of capture (a label comes up saying "captured" but no tick appears).

Seems to lots of problems with USB just now - hopefully they will fix it soon.
(I have RTFM, set the filters and made offerings to the USB djinn :P)
