Pointing to virtual media from a share.

I would like to use the shares I have on my nas instead of copying the vdis locally. I noticed that the virtualbox won't see the shares. How can I make this? I have mounted the shares I have logged in to the nas and I see them on my desktop where I can browse them. But when I try to point to the nas share from the virtual media manager, it just shows the local folders. I have a picture I could upload to show you, but there's still no option for us to do this unfortunately. In any case, this is the same problem other proggies have where you can't point to a share. So if anyone can help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I got virtualbox under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit. And we all have to be careful about how we write online because although we may not mean to sound mean, sometimes it can come out that way.

Live and learn.

Jaime, with the new version of VB, you can select a much easier method of Host Interface Networking. That allows you to select your physical NIC directly and you can then access the NAS shares directly. It should already be possible with NAT to access them without the use of SF.
I tried, but still no shares showing up...

Well, I did try both the nat and host to see if virtualbox would find the share for the iso I wanted to install. It still doesn't find the share even though I logged into it before trying, just to make sure I was logged into it.
I wonder how big this server here is since we still can't upload a screenshot which would make all the world of difference to show what we mean. In this case I think it's fine, but sometimes it just helps. I no longer post to any of the so called "free places" because they always change too much. So if any of the sun guys are reading this, I hope they get some terabyte drives so we can upload something. In any case, I really don't know why some programs can pick up the shares and others just don't. Keep in mind that I'm trying to install the ubuntu from the share iso into a virtual machine. I am on an Ubuntu desktop too, but it makes no difference.

So Jaime, you want to install a VM from an ISO that is on the NAS. Can your Host connect to it? If so, add the ISO there. The VM will boot from it then. If you can't even connect to the NAS from the Host, then we can't help you with this, as it's outside the scope of this forum.
Thanks

Yes I can connect to the nas with my host but not virtualbox and you're right, the only way I can probably get that to boot is to copy the iso on to my host first. I was trying to skip this step and point straight to the nas from the virtualbox settings. I know it's not a big iso, but it would be nice not having to keep copying the ISO files locally. I would much rather just point to them to keep the clutter down and redundancy of the same files.

I split your post to a new topic, because it was going way off-topic in the other one. I also moved it to Linux Hosts, as that's your primary issue.
