Try removing the old modules with something like

sudo dpkg -r virtualbox-ose-modules
and or
sudo dpkg -r virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-21

I'm not sure which one or both is correct so just do both of them.
then try reinstalling.

Nope. That's not it :(

Code: Select all

$ sudo dpkg -r virtualbox-ose-modules
[sudo] password for jonathan:
dpkg - warning: ignoring request to remove virtualbox-ose-modules which isn't installed.
Thanks for trying though.

Jonathan, read the error message you have virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-21-generic installed. Do a dpkg -l | grep virtualbox-ose to see what OSE packages you have installed. You must remove these before you can install the PUEL edition.

Thanks. Now it has installed and prompted me to add myself to the group vboxusers. Now I need to find out how to start the app. There is not virtualbox entry in the applications menu and typing virtualbox or virtualbox-2.1 doesnt work.

so google to the rescue!

*nix is case sensitive. Try VirtualBox. Scanning the manual also helps :lol:
