Seems to work intermittently after trying seveal permutations:
- Enabled a 3-button mouse
- Enabled a 1.1 USB Device
- Disabled USB 2.0
- Toggled Share/No Share on Host

Here is the error message: Image

Finally decided to stay with the sharing. Since I am on Vista, I had to enable Full permissions.

Back to VB, mapped \\VBHost\Share. BTW, the host does not show up in Network Places. Still the UNC works.

Nothing is ever simple ... but it works

Update

I have uninstalled U3 from the Cruzer and now my USB is able to cruise in my VM.

Follow-up q: is autoplay supposed to work in a VM? Somewhere I read a reference to a registry tweak to indicate a changed state of attached devices: CDROMS and I am not sure if this refers to the USB as well. I can seem to find the reference. Anyone know where I can find the Reg reference?

Cruzer USB with U3 not recognized --- continued frustrations

Post by fctc »

I am totally frustrated with the USB support.

VB 2.1.0
Vista Home Premium Host
XP VM
Cruzer - removed U3. When Vista recognizes the flash drive, XP VM indicates it is busy --- thus no go. When Vista does not detect the flash drive, I mount the USB in XP VM and it works sometimes.

Now I have a SanDisk SD Video card. Filter enabled, but cannot mount it -- no activity.

I tried other USBs (another Cruzer w U3 removed). XP indicates device is active, but does not 'blink' and does no assign a drive letter.

Help!

I gave up on the USB in the VM and settled on creating the USB as a Shared Folder from the Host.

Improving USB support goes to my wish list.

It's possible that it's more the work of the way these Cruzer work. It's bad enough that it needs to install some software that is on a virtual cd partition on that same drive before you can work with it.
