Ubuntu 8.04 and Virtualbox

Post by chrispche »

Hi there,

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and have installed Virtual Box from the websites repo. My question is this. I have installed everything successfully and the module build was done without hic cup. What do I do now. I don't see an icon for it. I assume you have to configure it somehow. Can anyone help or point me in the direction of some help.

I want to install Windows XP so I can access my phone via USB, which I assume you can do.

I used to use VMWare, but was told this is better. Especially for Linux.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forum. You might want to take this opportunity to browse the Forum Posting Guide. This contains some useful tips on how to search for VBox knowledge and how to frame Qs.

The command to start the VirtualBox GUI is VirtualBox. To find a file called VirtualBox you do sudo find / -name VirtualBox or whereis VirtualBox given that it is on the default path. Adding it to your desktop menu is a simple matter of configuring Gnome / KDE.

The menu launcher will appear after you log out and back in. Minor bug. Didn't happen with other releases though.
