sharing files on windows xp

hi there i having problmes is sharing folders i have Linux mint as the host os and have instilled win-xp guest os i have instilled the Guest actions and add the files i wan to share but when i look in win xp i cant see the shared folders and where i there something else i am meant two do

dose it matter at this time i am running win xp sp1 i have the updated in the folder lol i am trying to get into :d

Please check the manual for how to mount them. They aren't shown as a normal folder or drive directly, you have to mount them.

ok i fellowed that it look like it all working as this the screen shot it get of the ico i says about in the faq but why are the folders not showing

You have the GA installed, I see that because there is a VB icon in the system tray (next to the clock). Now right click on the Folder icon in the status bar of the VB GUI. You see the names of any defined folders that you want to share with the Guest. Open a command prompt and enter the example from the manual, changing the name of the folder to what you have in set.

Would you please read the manual for once? It's all described there. We aren't copy/paste monkeys here.

ok i have ran this code

net use x: \\vboxsvr\vm_docs

x will do for the name so i left it but know when i try to go to mycomputer on the guest xp i crashes but when i got to networkplaces i dont see anythink did i do somthing wrong ?

X: stands for a drive letter you assing to the share. It's best to stick to normal characters for your shared folder name, so a-z only.
You also should disable the WebClient service, as it can give some issues when browsing or changing files on the shared folders.

ok i have change it to e but why when i go to my computer it crashes and i dont see anythink in network places ?

and i have check the manu and what is WebClient service could not find anythink about it sorry i just need to get the shared folders working as i need to move thing as i do have to use windows for some projects

Did you ever work with Windows? You can find the WebClient service in computer management. Depending on the start menu you use, you click on Start, then right click on My Computer. Now select Manage and navigate to Services. You will see a list of services and look for the WebClient one. Stop it, then disable it from it's properties.

yes cheers i have used windows :d

this has still not stop my problem when i try got to mycomputer it crashed the hole thing and i can now long do anythink but power of the vm

Ok, if you only open My Computer and it crashes instantly, you really ought to look somewhere else than VB. Have you tried a clean install with an original install disc (no recovery or similar)?
