Guest window size...

Hi all,

I have found VirtualBox a very good software, and I'm testing it in various scenarios;
my guest OS is windows XP, the guest resolution is the same of host and the guest addictions are installed;
now I have noticed that when I start or when I restore from saved state, the VM resizes the window that contains it, according with the guest screen resolution; my wish is to keep the window guest size as I set, using the mouse, and then go to fullscreen when I want. Instead, since the guest screen resolution is the same the host screen resolution when I start the VM occurs many resizes and when the guest OS ends boot, it maximizes the window.
I have searched in forum and I haven't found nothing about this, so,

is there a way to prevent VirtualBox to resize the guest window when it starts a VM?

thanks in advance to anyone wants to help me,

sisma

Check the Machine menu and disable Automatic Guest Window resizing. Or hit the keyboard shortcut Host + G.

Thaks for your reply Sasquatch,

in the <Machine> menu there is <Auto-resize guest display> according Host+G shortcut and already disabled, so if I resize the VB guest window this not affects the guest display resolution;
but if I change the guest display resolution (Win XP) from 800x600 to 1024x768, the VB guest window's size change too and that occurs anytime the user or the SO change the guest display resolution (for example to the boot, the OS change resolution many times and the VB guest window resizing too).

It's possible to prevent this behavior?

thanks again,

sisma

No, this is not changeable, unless you maximize the window. You can't keep the window size to 800x600 resolution size while it's booting to 1024x768 or 640x480 if it's not maximized.

hi,

did you solve it ?

I'm virtualizing Ubuntu.
when I resize the window I can only see the gray outline and I can't select an higher resolution from Ubuntu Display Settings.

thanks

Hi sisma,

As far as I know Virtual Box does not have any way to remember what your screen size is so this would be a OS specific problem. I have noticed that Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE open to where I left them unless I have updated VBox and then one setting is all it takes. Arch, PClinux, and and Cent were a flip of the coin when opening. Sometimes they work sometimes not.
