I am trying to get VirtualBox installed on my Ubuntu system (8.10) and everytime I try, it freezes my entire box right after XP finishes formatting. I've searched the forums and tried everything I found.

I've tried the SCIM fix and the ACPI. Everything else is default settings on both the system and VirtualBox.

which version of virtualbox (version number, is it binary or built from source)? which version of xp?

if built from source, did the build process apply patches when building virtualbox? //gentoo ebuild did
