Hello to everybody and Marry Christmas,

I bought a HUAWEI E168 HSDPA USB modem and used it on my DELL D610 Laptop.

My laptop has a WinXP PRO OS and USB Modem works so fine and I enjoy it.

On my Laptop I have a VirtualBox machine running WinXP PRO too but I'm having problem to use HUAWEI modem.

I provided same software installation as did on laptop.

At the end of installation virtual machine recognizes HUAWEI modem and virtual drive wich is on it. When I launch software application to use it "no connection to network HSDPA is possible because software doesn't recognize modem".

Have anyone suggestions?

I already used other devices on Virtual Machine through USB port and Virtual Machine has no problem to recognizes it and use it as well. For example I use my NOKIA 6151 Phone and Nokia PC Suite without problem on my Virtual Machine.

I hope someone can help me.

Thank you in advance.

Felice

Any USB device can only be used by the host or one VM at a time. If you've configured your USB modem on the host then it is probably connected to a host process and therefore unavailable to the guest.

Hello TerryE,

first of all thank you for your answer.

I discovered one hours ago a different way to use USB modem but I'm trying to understand why it works.

In my Virtual Machine I realized a new DIAL-UP connection in NETWORK CONNECTION from CONTROL PANEL, then in properties I used *99# as phone number and that's all!!

When I launch DIAL-UP it starts to work! But why? :D

Why ISP software application doesn't recognizes modem? :?
