2.1 + x64 = no internal networking?

Post by fcpk »

Hello,

As the topic says, I'm having trouble getting any form of non-nat/host-card networking.
I wanted to get a fast internal network to communicate with my vm without loading my network switch, but the buttons to add network interfaces have disappeared... I'm assuming this means there are no more drivers for vista/2k8 x64 internal networking?
Going back to 2.0 gets me back the add/delete button for interfaces.

Thanks for anymore insight,

I'm pretty sure that 2.1 was made so you don't have to manually implement a network card, or bridging. Its done automatically with new guest additions.

so how do I communicate with the vm without actually going through the hardware link?

And another question would be... how do I configure what ips does the host will have for an internal network if there's no card for it?

If you want Host <> Guest communication without the use of your physical interface, install the MS loopback adapter and select that on the VM settings.

And what kind of ip would I then give to my server connected directly to the loopback?(it's not making much sense to me how it could exist at the level of the loopback)

If you want the Host <> Guest only, any private IP range will do. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network for the ranges you can use. Don't use the same range as you already have on your network (probaby 192.168.1.x).
