Unable to start 2nd guest VM

Hi,

I have installed VBox 2.1 in two Thinkpad. Both have problems with starting the 2nd guest VM. I was able to launch 3 guest VM with VBox 2.0.6

The configuration of the Host is as the following: ThinkPad X61, C2D 2.0GHz, 3GB RAM, WinXP Pro SP3
Guest OS - Ubuntu 8.10 (Desktop and Server) and Windows 2000 Server

Problem encountered is as the following:

Code: Select all

Failed to start the virtual machine Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496253e}

I just wondering whether this problem this happens on the Windows Host only or across other Host platforms (Mac OSX and Linux). I am pending the VBox upgrade for the Macbook.

That's strange. I can start as many VMs at the same time as my RAM allows me. That can be three (3) or more, depending on the machine I'm running VB.

You are able to start each VM independently? So when you have no VM running, you can start the VM that gave an error first?

I was able to start 3 VM at same time when I was using VB 2.0.6 but not for the 2.1.

I am able to run those VMs one at a time under VB 2.1

One thing that might matter. Whats your settings for vt-x/amd-v I think they should be set to the same in all machines to avoid problems (I'm not sure about this).
Another thing that came to mind, Have you enabled openGL ? There are reports that only the first VM can use that.

And I'm 2.1 with at least 2 machines on macosx without any problems.

It seems the problem is Windows Host specific. I have upgraded my the VB of my MacBook and it is working fine with the 2 VM (concurrent).

However, the problem is still exisiting for the my Windows XP Host, even though I tried the different combination of the options (VT-X, 3D, network).

I had the same problem but have just fixed it...

Make sure that all your VM's have the same VT-X/AMD-V settings.

I turned them all on in my VMs and now have three vms running fine now!

OpenSuse Linux 11.1
Fedora 10 Linux
Windows XP

Still not able to start two VM at the same time even I turn off the VT-x/AMD-x for all the VMs.
