Mouse/Keyboard not captured by guest!?

Hi,
I'm new to VB. I downloaded and installed VB 2.10 on Ubuntu 8.04. The guest OS is Windows XP Pro.
I start XP and everything goes as expected. But, when I click in the windows screen the VB dialog box pops up telling me about capturing cursors etc...
I select the 'Capture' option and the dialog box goes away but the cursor is not captured. If I click in XP again the dialog box reappears and the whole sequence is repeated. This can go on and on until I give up. Although sometimes after 2 or 5 or 7 tries the cursor is captured and I can use XP.
Anyone out there have any ideas?

Have you loaded the VBox Guest Additions for Windows (search the User Guide for this phrase)?

I have not installed guest additions.
I will try it and report back.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Installing guest additions solved the problem.
Thanks again.

I am having the same problem but i am trying to run Ubuntu 8.10. I have done this:
1. Before installing the Guest Additions, you will have to prepare your guest system
for building external kernel modules. This works similarly as described in chap-
ter 2.3.2, The VirtualBox kernel module, page 20, except that this step must now
be performed in your Linux guest instead of on a Linux host system, as described
there.
Again, as with Linux hosts, we recommend using DKMS for Linux guests as well.
If it is not installed, use this command:
sudo apt-get install dkms
Dkms is now installed. I am now stuck on what to do next. I cannot find VBoxGuestAdditions.iso on my HD.

See the
Forum FAQ for what to install on Ubuntu to install GA. Read the manual GA on Linux to see how to install it.

I did read the Virtualbox manual and was unable to locate the file that was referenced. To quote from the manual pg. 6l, which I have already read,:
2. Mount the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file as your Linux guest’s virtual CD-
ROM drive, exactly the same way as described for a Windows guest in chapter
4.2.1.1, Mounting the Additions ISO file, page 58. I tried searching using Tracker for this file and it did not come up.

After you have mounted the ISO to the VM, you have to mount the CD in the Guest too. Linux Guests are a bit picky about this. You need to run 'mount /media/cdrom' manually before you can actually install the GA.

I tried running mount /media/cdrom in the terminal and got no media found.
Sorry for the confusion but do you mean that Ii need a real cd of each iso I want to use in VB on Ubuntu?

No, you can select Devices > Install Guest Additions. Now the media is loaded. Enter the mount command and the 'CD' should mount and you can install the GA.

Where can you find the item Devices in VB 2.1?

Its in the VM console window menu, not the VirtualBox GUI.

Ok I got it now. Now when the guest captures the keyboard and mouse the right control key will not give it back until I shutdown the guest OS from the guest.
