Host: Vista. Problems: shared folders, USB, wifi

Post by miomio_0 »

The host is Windows Vista and the OS in VB is Windows XP. Problems:

-When I go to set up shared folders I can select the folder I want to share, etc, but when it comes to clicking OK to finalize everything that button is disabled, transparent so I can't confirm this change.

-I tried enabling the USB connection settings for the VB but still peripherals are not recognized when I'm in VB. Also status icon at the bottom says no USB devices are connected when they are.

-Can't connect to internet, WiFi not being recognized. This may be a seperate, XP problem related to drivers not being there. Altho I did copy the wifi card's driver from the system32>drivers folder and downloaded into VB, and put it into the same folder, of course this didn't solve the problem. Any advice on this additionally would be great though...

HEEELLLLPP!!!

I've spent hours and hours over the last 3 days scouring the net trying to find a solution for this. I'm about to pull my hair out!! I'm not a techie so I can't just glide between DOS prompts putting in the code that I've found suggested here and there. :( Windows VM didn't work on my Vista Home edition so I hoped this would, but I'm very disappointed so far with everyone... :(

I had similar problems as well. Particularly with the USB devices. Here is the situation as I found it:

The system saw my USB devices. But when I tried to use them, they weren't there. I foound that I had to "mount" them withing the virtual machine in order for them to operate.

I hope this helps.

First point: Don't use special characters, especially white spaces, as a Shared Folder name. Best to use only lower case characters (a-z).

Second point: Like Cirel said, you need to activate the device in the VM, so you virtually plug it in the VM.

Third point: Your wifi card is not seen on the Guest. VB gives you a NIC that you need to install. If you only want internet, NAT is the best choice.
