I'm running a 98 guest on an XP host. I can boot from the floppy without CDROM drivers. When booting with, it hangs at "Scanning PCI Bus using PCI BIOS interfaces..." I am able to boot the computer itself with CDROM drivers so my CDROM is compatible.

I went to bootdisk.com and got an alternate boot disk.
