MultiProcessor Aware

Post by castman »

I'm aware that my processor doesn't support hardware virtualization since I discovered SecurAble tool from VirtualIron.

However, this last version of VirtualBox says it has an experimental support for multiprocessor under 32 bits host.

I gave it a try and tryed installing Windows XP X86 on my Windows XP Dual Core X86 host machine (same OS). I looked at setup.log to quickly discover if I got a dual core guest machine, but no luck. This even after enabling IO APIC.

My question is since I've read almost everything about in the manual. If I had hardware virtualization, would already be possible to get the dual core guest machine I specified, working?

AFAIK not having hardware virtualization shouldn't prevent a VM from having multiple cores.

It's possible you have to configure the number of cores in the VM setting file, especially since it's experimental it wouldn't be on by default. I'm not seeing any core settings in VBoxManage though.

VB does not support multi core support yet. It is in the works, but it's unknown when it will be done.
