since installing the lastest version of virtualbox 2.10, im pretty confused about setting this up.
the virtual tap adapter settings have gone, so I tried setting it up with a loopback adapter. When I bridge the connections, virtualbox dosent recognize them.
I was alble to sort all this out before on the older version using XP as my virtual machine. I am new to ubuntu so this extra confusion dosent help.
I want to give ubuntu its own ip address on the network.

Since 2.1.0, a bridge is no longer needed. You can select the physical adapter directly for use in the VM. Guest config will be the same as on earlier versions.
