Mandriva 2008.1 vboxnetflt not auto building 2.1.0

I installed 2.1.0 on Mandriva and the vboxdrv module built fine.

However the vboxnetflt module didn't. There were no errors, nothing in the logs. I discovered this on a reboot, and was also unable to start it manually.

I did a manual virtualbox setup. Setup deleted the old kernel module, and apparently built both of them this time. lsmod shows:

vboxnetflt 83912 0
vboxdrv 109448 1 vboxnetflt

So both are there and loaded now. They reload fine on a reboot.

But, I am seeing two s51vboxnet failures to start on boot now. /etc/rc.d.rc4.d and rc5.d both have a link called s51vboxnet, and this points to ../init.d/vboxnet, which isn't there. vboxdrv is though.

So not sure what is going on with this?

VirtialBox starts and runs. Also, the 3d acelleration seems to work fine on Windows 2000, which isn't listed as working. So kudos on that one, big time.

Just to be sure, try the new Host Interface Networking. If it indeed failed to start on boot, that should not work too. If it does, you're lucky and you can ignore the errors. However, I don't have that init.d script either on my Ubuntu Host and HIF works just fine.

Wondering if those links should even be there then? Maybe left over from an older install?

The file they point to isn't there.

I just check my rcx.d folders, and none have the vboxnetflt link. Only vboxdrv is in it. I'd say, remove those links and don't worry about it. If the HIF works, why bother ;). Could be some left over in the RPM, but that should not happen, as each package is build from the same source.

HIF is definitely working. Likely are left over from an older install of Vbox on the machine.

They are in rc2, 3, 4, and 5.d directories.

I'll hold off deleting the erroneous links until Monday...

So what exactly is the advantage to using the HIF now over NAT anyway?

Using HIF still has the same advantages/disadvantages compared to NAT, it's just easier to set it up. If you would roam from one place to another using different network interfaces, NAT is probably better if you use want internet access in the VM.
