Hi,

if you select Hostinterface in the Networking Settings in VB GUI you have to select the interface you want from the list below. This list doesnt update. I just changed my whole network config and it still only lets me select the old (not existing interfaces).

VB 2.10 on Win XP SP2 running Ubuntu 8.1

Any way to refresh the list? BTW: I tried the good old reboot

so, uninstalled 2.10
reinstalled 2.10

host adapters now show up in the Host Adapters list
Weird

Oh, and the Virtual Host Adapter still shows, I guess I have to hand bomb the associated xml file ...

Once you have updated all your virtual machines to point to your real network card, the old host interfaces should disappear from the list.

well, if I uninstall (incl. a registry clean as i always do) and then reinstall, there is a up to date list. I just wondered if there is a way to refresh it via command or button. Is this what you meant?

I cant find a xml file where the list is saved or controlled.

@whoisrich: Thanks. If you disable the driver for one interface on my computer, it is still shown in the list for example, thats the problem, I think this list is only generated once and then static.

I think it does do a live look up and combines it with any adapters stored in the virtual machines, so that if you untick the box in your network card, but one of your machines it already selected as a host interface, it will still be listed.

You can test this by editing all your virtual machines, and setting them all to NAT, untick the box in your network card, and then see what cards are showing as available for the host interface option.

If by some chance theres a rogue entry, you will probably find it in the XML, the default location for this is in your profile, in a .virtualbox folder.

XP: c:\documents and settings\username\
Vista: c:\users\username\

In the .virtualbox there will be one XML for the main settings, and then in the machines folder, there will be an entry for each virtual machine, and each virtual machine will have its own XML file.

Yes, true. it detects new adapters but keeps all old ones listed.

I have the same problem, it tries to install the driver for all the old network interfaces

and also I have a windows crash when trying to use host networking

Sorry for the delay in response, on a Xmas road trip

I figured I'd be able to find some mention of the old Virtual adapter somewhere in the xml files associated with the guest machines. I was wrong. As has been pointed out, a restart of the application, and the Virtual adapters were gone.

I must say, I'm really happy that the requirement for creating virtual adapters and then bridging NICs is a thing of the past.
