Don't raise the dead. This thread is 4 years old and your suggested solution will have killed every VM if it was suggested back then.

5 years later and this is still an issue...

Deleting the .virtualbox folder doesn't work for me. It's just creates it again and then gives me the same error popup (Failed to create virtualbox com object).

I've tried so many different versions of virtualbox with exactly the same result.

This is on Windows 8.
