Installing 2.1.0 on top of 2.0.4 - installer hangs

Hello all...

So I just tried to install 2.1.0 on top of the current 2.0.4 installation I have on my computer, and the installer appears to complete (at least, the progress bar is at the end), but it just hangs there forever and does nothing, and I have to cancel it.

Anybody experience this?

Don't do "on top of" installs. Uninstall the previous VBox, then install the new one. Your settings will be migrated forward.

Yes, after this I uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked; tho' I had to do it several times, because cancelling the installer didn't do anything (it just sat there), so I had to kill it by hand, and then reboot (because the installer thought it was still running, tho' it wasn't), and then remove all the installed components from the registry and disk by hand.

THEN I rebooted, installed from scratch, and it worked.

Big pain... the installer shouldn't hang like that, even if I make a mistake like trying to install over a previous version; it should either warn me, or timeout when it can't accomplish some task, so that it can terminate gracefully.

Just my 2 cents.
