Shared folders don't work? try a trailing backslash

Post by Juggalo »

Would like to Using Windows XP 3 as host and guest. Created the following shared folder: (Q:\Shared does exist on the host machine of course).

But no matter what I try, whenever I want to open \\vboxsvr\Shared it doesn't work.

Accidentally I tried opening \\vboxsvr\Shared\ (mind the trailing backslash) and that worked immediately!

Just thought I'd share (pun) this with anyone else running into this problem.
Can be tricky because the tooltip in the shared folders icon also shows the share names *without* the backslash.

It doesn't work for me. I have Vista 32 host and win2000 guest and both options (\\vboxsvr\Shared\ and \\vboxsvr\Shared) DO NOT work.

I`ve set it to full access to C drive and named it "drive". When I type "\\vboxsvr\drive" or "\\vboxsvr\drive\" nothing happens :(

So, what is the exact drive path? Is it C:, or C:\? Perhaps you're not allowed to share the system drive. Try a subdirectory, like C:\test.

Can you post a screenshot of the SF window too? That way we see what you have set and the name(s) of the shared folders. Right click the folder icon in the VM GUI to show it.

Rename the shared folder. It doesn't like the underscore (_). Give it the name of the drive itself, and if it doesn't have a label, just give it one, like 'data', or 'host'.

Thank you for your support. I`ve updated VB to 2.1.0 (before I read your last reply), installed VB additions and everything works like a charm.
