Vista 64 host CentOS 64 guest install error

Post by teksaport »

Hi, I have 2 problems but in order to ask for help on the second I need help to get the errors out of the guest.

I have an HP laptop running Vista SP1 64 bit. I've downloaded and installed the VirtualBox 64 bit. I've turned on virtualization in my bios. I have an ISO of CentOS5.2 64 bit. I hope that's enough info, but if not ask me and I'll see what else I need to provide.

During install the ISO boots up fine, the install for CentOS loads fine. I am able to go through the entire "configuration" process (hostname, ip, timezone, etc). On the final configuration screen it says to click "Next" to begin the install. When I click that, I get an "Exception" error. It allows me to see the error and I can select all and copy it, but then I cannot get that out of the guest so I can paste the error here or at the CentOS site (as I'm not sure who or what's responsible). Can anyone tell me if there is a way to share the clipboard between the host and guest at this stage so I can get the exception error?

Also for consideration. 1) I have installed that version of CentOS 5.2 64bit (host) on a machine (full PC 64bit) and it worked fine. So I know the CD ISO is fine. 2) After CentOS 5.2 64bit failed several times at the same spot, I have now downloaded and tried CentOS 5.2 32bit and it has installed completely without errors. So I know my VirtualBox is running fine.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to say that I did see the advanced item of "Shared clipboard", but it didn't seem to work. I copied the error, did a copy, but when I came back to my windows and did a paste, the clipboard was empty. Anyway just thought you should know my advanced - clipboard sharing was/is enabled (bothways).

Thanks for your consideration,
John

You enabled all options for 64 bit guest support (ACPI, APIC, PAE)?

Shared Clipboard is only available after you install the Guest Additions.

I did enable all of the options, and as for the clipboard, I thank you, I did not get the guest additions installed. I'll do that.

Thanks

Well, I guess my comment is kind of stupid as I can't install the Guest Additions until after I get the OS installed, but the problem is that I'm still in the "install" of the OS when the problem occurs. I might have to type down the error info in the OS error so I can ask for help on it.

Thanks
John
