Network btw winxp host and winxp guest

I'd like to set up a network btw the host and the guest.
From what I've read so far, I've tried using HIF setting an IP on the host machine (lets say 192.168.0.1) and an IP on the guest machine (lets say 192.168.0.10)
Of course, I've set the preferences of the guest not to use NAT but to use HIF.
But obviously, I'm missing something cause it doesn't work.
I've also tried setting a a bridge with my ethernet adapetr and the virtulbox adpter (even if I'd prefer not to) and it didn't work either...
any clues

Disable the default firewall, or add an exception for File and Printer sharing.

ipconfig from guest
Carte Ethernet Connexion au réseau local 3:
Suffixe DNS propre à la connexion :
Adresse IP. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.10
Masque de sous-réseau . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Passerelle par défaut . . . . . . :
ipconfig from host
Carte Ethernet VirtualBox Interface hôte 1:
Suffixe DNS propre à la connexion :
Adresse IP. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Masque de sous-réseau . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Passerelle par défaut . . . . . . :
Lan cable is plugged on the host, but that's irrelevant 'cause it'll have to work without cable plugged...

2.1.0 is out now, with new HIF configuration. It's a lot easier now. Try it.

Hm - should not be complicated... you could add netbios protocol and do without several other settings. By the way, you DID enable filesharing on both machines ? I.e appoint shared disks or folders ? And I assume that you want all this without the Guest Additions.
