VB won't install Mint5 or Mepis7

Having a heck of time installing the above referenced on Vista Ultimate SP1 with Phenom9950BE / MSI K9A2 / 4gb ram / ATI Radeon 3450 video. Both cd's just sit. Have other Linux distros installed so I think I get the process for installation.

Mint tells me motherboard not detected. Mepis seems to load then stops shortly after offering default option.

What might I be missing with these 2.

At the boot prompt there are several settings available like "NOACPI", "NOAPIC" or "ACPI=FALSE".

Check your Distro for such settings, cant say you the exact syntax for both.
