Access a mac shared folder (afp share) from windows xp guest

Post by testuser »

Hi,

I'm setting up virtualbox in a network with 2 macs. One of the macs is sharing a folder through the standard mac way (afp sharing) named Music; the other mac is connected to this shared folder.

In the second mac I've installed Virtualbox (2.0.6) with Windows XP, installed guest additions and created a vbox shared folder that points the mac shared folder (path volumes/Music).

When I try to access the above vbox shared folder, I can see it in "my network places/entire network/virtualbox shared folders" , but when I open it I only get the flashlight icon and anything else.

I've tried with NAT and Host Networking, reinstalling the guest additions, with no success.

Does anybody has an idea of how to make this setup work?

Thanks in advance

So why don't you share it also as smb-folder from the origin mac? Then it could be used as a networkfolder inside vbox.

I have the same situation. And it is stupid and it is impossible.

path volumes/Music is a local path. Your network path starts with afp:

And you can't add network paths in shared folders list.

Quote from user manual:
Shared folders must physically reside on the host and are then shared with the guest
Also if you search for adding a network drive to a shared folders list, you will only come up with the 1000 guides about how to make a local host drive a \\Vboxsrv network drive and not how to make a network drive a shared folder.

Because it does't work, doh.

That section of the user manual is discussing GA shared folders only. Not network sharing.

If you are accessing a standard network share then you access it in the standard network way. That's beyond the scope of the VBox manual.
