Communication beetween host and VM

Post by titouan »

Hello,

I am french but I will try to explain what is wrong with my VM's as clearly as possible.
I installed a VM (Ubuntu) on my computer (Vista) and I want them to communicate (in order to installe an Asterisk Server on the VM).
The problem is the VM IP adress is 10.0.2.15 (gw 10.0.2.2), then it can not communicate with my computer (192.168.1.11). I would like to know how to configure my VM in order my PC and my VM to communicate.
Please send me a link or explain me how I have to do.

Thank you

What you need is Host Interface Networking. This is explained dozens of times on the forums, and is also in the manual.

You cannot run servers on VMs when using NAT networking as host PCs cannot access the VM using networking in this mode.

Use a VirtualBox Host Interface instead, as the last guy said.

That last guy has a name you know.

And it is possible to run a server with NAT, you just have to forward some ports. E.g. a webserver can be run just fine with NAT. You just have to forward a port higher than 1024 (8080 for example).
Though for some services, like asterisk, which is VoIP, it is needed to use HIF because of certain network needs.
