VB works on Windows 7 32-bit but NOT on Windows 7 64-bit

Hi all... i have problems to install VB 2.0.6 (tryed other builds also) on windows 7 64-bit, but my friend installs ok on windows 7 32-bit.... anyone have any idea to solve this???

have a MSIlog of my 64-bit setup on http://www.addl.com.br/MSIlog.txt

You do realize that Windows 7 is not released yet. It was shipped as alpha to developers just a few days ago. There is no support or whatsoever from Sun on this matter. Only when Windows 7 is final will there be support.

I know this... but on windows 7 32-bit "Not Suported", works fine.... the problem is not with windows 7, but with 64-bit instalation, many people in the forum reported that.... not about windows 7, but about windows 64-bit....

If anyone have any suggestions to try, please let-me know...

A 32 bit application works different than a 64 bit app, even though they do the same thing. There are other APIs that needs to be called, other libraries needed, there is no comparison with 32 and 64 bit systems. You can't simply say "it works on 32 bit, so it should work on 64 bit too". That's like saying "diesel works in my car, so euro 95 should too", just because it's it's a fuel for a car.

Yes, but on virtualbox, the thing is not the same, because a 64-bit specific version exists, is like diesel for diesel powered car, not euro 95 on a diesel car..... but you comparision is good. thanks for the answer.

There were Problems for supported 64 Bit Windows Problems. Thats another thing: Your version cant be supported at this time, because its not a final version.

I know that too... but it maybe work unsupported.... if anyone can resolve the installer problem or point directions to do a hand install.

I only want suggestions, today i tryed to intall vb over a vista 64-bit... not work too....

Please help... so many people have the same problem with 64-bit systems

The problem is only with installer...

Let me spell out for you what everyone else has tried to tell you.

VIRTUALBOX WILL NOT BE SUPPORTING CURRENT BUILDS OF WINDOWS 7, IN 32 OR 64 BITS. EVER.

I can say this mostly confidently even though I have no connection to the VBox dev team.

What this means is if it doesn't work now, chances are it WON'T work, and if it ever does work, by then Windows 7 final will likely be out and it no one will care anymore about pre-beta builds of Windows 7.

My only suggestion would be to try Windows' built in compatibility mode on the installer to make it think you're running Vista. Aside from that a good computer programmer would have to give the installer the once-over. Although I am a good computer programmer I lack a 64-bit CPU as well as the need to run an experimental OS as a host OS.

One chance is that the devs may decide to "unofficially" support the Windows 7 public betas as hosts, or they may not. It will probably depend on how many of them get access to the betas and how interested they are in it. Most likely the first Windows 7 supported releases we'll see will be as Windows 7 release nears and VBox devs code support in in anticipation of the release.

So what you're saying is... it works completely, but it doesn't.

I did read your post and I addressed it in mine. Please read MY post before deciding I didn't read yours.

The installer is considered part of VirtualBox.

Maybe you need to learn a little about computer software:

and YES, VIRTUALBOX is 100% WORKING, not the INSTALLER OF THE VIRTUALBOX that is a diferent piece of software.

Add your comments here please. We are aware that there's an issue with our installer. Interesting that it's only on x64 though.
