ATI dual monitor seamless issue

When running dual monitors and setting the ati config to --screen-layout=right, I have an issue with using seamless mode on the left screen (which happens to be the laptop). It seems to create a video "portal' that is 800x600 starting in the upper left corner. Everything else is clipped. You can see the explorer bar at the bottom - but it is displayed in white (no graphical images). If you use the "windows" key you can get it to launch the start button and see anything that is displayed in the "portal'.

The right screen - which is a separate instance of the desktop has a larger display area and resolution - works fine if you launch the seamless mode from that desktop. I quadrupled the guest video memory, but that did not help.

Does anyone have any insight?

Seamless mode and probably fullscreen too do not work properly on a secondary monitor. It's likely that your laptop monitor is set as secondary display.

For a laptop I don't think there is a great solution at this point.

On my desktop where I wanted to use VB on two monitors I found that the solution is to merge the independent desktops into a BigDesktop. This effectively makes your desktop size doubling your screen size. For me with ATI adapters causes a restart of XDM to take effect. So, if you are not using your setup for a long time BigDesktop might not be the best solution.
