NAT and FTP

I have opened a vmware server VM (Windows XP) with virtualbox and a NAT interface. Everything was working fine until I discovered that FTP doesn't work from the client out. The same VM opened using vmware server works fine. Is it suppose to work under virtualbox?
The FTP is a function of an application so no I can't just use PASV.

Welcome to our forum. You might want to take this opportunity to browse the
Forum Posting Guide. This contains some useful tips on how to search for VBox knowledge and how to frame Qs.
You've obviously done some research here before asking your Q so thank-you. However, if you can't use PASV then unfortunately you won't get FTP working with NAT. You will need to swap to a bridged host IF. If you are cable connected then if you read the manual this is pretty straight forward. Getting bridging to work with wireless is a lot more complicated, unfortunately.

Thanks Terry. Yes I did know the answer but I just wanted to make double sure plus indirectly register the need to be able to ftp from an client machine using a NAT interface. Maybe in version 3 or 4 but I won't hold my breath
