Why do you want to have Deamon Tools in a VM? It already allows you to mount an ISO file as the CD/DVD drive.

support for other formats, like mdf, cue/bin, nrg.Sasquatch wrote:Why do you want to have Deamon Tools in a VM? It already allows you to mount an ISO file as the CD/DVD drive.
I couldn't even get past the SPTD part. I got shutdown with a "Internal Setup Error: 256. Contact Support" after clicking the first "NEXT"freewind wrote:I known about mount iso. But some programms require virtual cd with same options (safe disk).
Have you manage to install?
I couldn't get it to install either.
I was using virtualBox on Ubuntu with XP on a virtual drive.
I had a program in BIN/CUE format that I wanted to install on XP (I had used Daemon tool on my 'real' XP and wanted to do the same on my 'virtual' XP).
I'm a novice so take my advice as such - but the easiest solution was to install the package bchunck which then allowed me to simply change the BIN/CUE format to ISO.
To get the package - from terminal:
sudo aptitude install bchunck
then, in the terminal navigate to the files location and enter the following:
bchunck filename.BIN filename.CUE filename.ISO
I believe its just as easy to convert other formats to ISO but I have no experience of this.
Then in virtualbox settings I just mounted the desired ISO image in the CD/DVD and the auto-install kicked off when I started the virtual computer up.
No idea if this is 'the right way to do it' or if it helps you but thought I'd post it anyway.

Daemon Tools may require hardware virtualization.
If your CPU supports it, you can enable this in the settings for that machine (VT-x/AMD-V).
I had installed & used Daemon Tools while VT-x was enabled. When restarting the machine with VT-x disabled, Daemon tools gave an error and failed to start. It starts OK when VT-x is re-enabled.
OS: Ubuntu 8.10 2.6.27-9-generic
CPU: Intel E6320
Vbox: 2.1.0

Re: Daemon tools not installing
Just came across this exact problem, seems if your PC does not support hardware virtualisation then you cannot run Daemon Tools.
However AnytoISO is a great free program for converting CD/DVD images of non ISO standard. Cheers

since when do you need hardware virtualization to get DT working?RocketServer wrote:Just came across this exact problem, seems if your PC does not support hardware virtualisation then you cannot run Daemon Tools.

Read the rest of the topic. I couldn't get it to work, and I don't have HV.

Re: Daemon tools not installing
It's absurd that an application requires something that doesn't even do anything with it. I tried it myself to install it on my VM, it flat out goes into error on the second step with an internal error 256. Useless program, that's what I think about it, and that's a mild statement.

Re: Daemon tools not installing
Hi,
Version 3.47 is compatible with Virtualbox. I have it installed and works fine under Windows XP.
Although the post is old, I hope the info can help others with this problem.
