Im trying to set up a webserver and mail server using VB (virtualize to seperate machines for each task) and was wondering if i can forward ports to the ip's they have. like i get the ip from ifconfig like 10.0.9.15 when my desktop and all other pcs in my house get 192.168.15.1** so can i just tell the router to forward ports the the ip i get in vb or do i need to assign static ones that are relative to the other pc's ip's? i hope that makes since lol

It doesn't make sense, if you don't give the info we need. For starters, what network settings do you use (attached NIC to ...). See the Forum Posting Guide for help giving the proper information and find information on the forum.

okay i connect to a router wirelessly and then i just have my vb set up on my the pc so im guessing it gets it internet the same way now when i type ifconfig this is what i get on eth0, 10.0.2.15, when it should be around something like 192.168.15.1** do i just set a static ip and be done wtih it? or is it much more complicated than that?

Search the manual and this forum for "host networking".
And if you need more help then you must tell us host and guest OS.

It's a bit more complicated. The IP you get is the default when you attach the virtual NIC to NAT. Changing it's IP address will result in loss of connectivity.
And since you use wifi, you're kind of stuck on that as bridging often doesn't work on Windows Hosts with a wireless adapter because it doesn't support promiscuous mode, which is required for bridging.

Yes, see the manual for how to do that. On the next major release of VB, it should be possible to forward a device directly to VB as a Host Interface, the same way MS VPC can.

okay got it working! didnt use the manual cause i couldnt find my exact problem in there but found it elsewhere. anyway so i can get DHCP and set static, problem is i can only get a internet connection when using address' like 192.168.0.xxx where as i can only forward ports to address' like 192.168.15.xxx. what did i do wrong here?

Did you by change use Internet Connection Sharing, instead of Bridging?

yes cause i couldnt find where to make bridges in vista so is that my problem just need to figure that out and im good to go?

Okay ip problem is solved but now i have no internet luckly i have the day off today to work on this
