I've spent the better part of a day reading through the manual and this site trying to figure this out but I am still confused.

I am currently dualbooting Windows XP and Linux (one on each partition).

I would like to install virtual box in Windows and load up linux in XP. I would still like to beable to boot straight into that linux setup directly without virtualbox

Based on what I am reading, it seems that I must either make an image of that partition somehow, then load it into virtualbox, or reinstall linux into virtualbox.

If I go with option one, make an image of the linux partition, does this mean I will need double the hard drive space or does it use image file directly?

See this thread http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=9697 for more information. It's about running Windows native and in VB, but the commands etc are the same for running Linux in VB and native. You just have to make sure that you have a proper MBR for the virtual part.

Running Linux both native and inside a VM is easier than doing that with Windows.
