VirtualBox Vista, fails to create host interfaces

Hello
I sucessfully installed VirtualBox 2.0.6 on Vista Business Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001. I'm also able to run a Linux VM without Problem.
However I can't get any networking to work. On installation, no Host interfaces where created, only a "unknown device" which prompts be about driver installation on every reboot. When I try to install the driver manually, by selecting the VBoxTAP.inf it fails with the following error message:
I'm really at a loss here, what I have tried so far:
Thank you and kind regards

When I try installing the Host interface through the VBox Interface (by adding it on the network tab of the VM), I get the following error (after I confirmed the UAC prompt:"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service"
And a new "unknown device" appears in the device manager. As well as the following message in the event log:SetupDiCallClassInstaller (DIF_INSTALLDEVICE) failed (0x000005AA).
Result-Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Host
Interface: IHost {489fb370-c227-4d43-9761-ceb28484fd9f}
I have searched the forum and found posts with similar problems however no solution. Also there is a bug posted #1987, which tells that the problem will go away with 2.1 (doesn't help me atm), or one that has no answerDriver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\vboxtap.inf_dca11c1f\vboxtap.inf for Device Instance ID ROOT\NET\0005 with the following status: 1450.
I'm really at a loss here, what I have tried so far:
- installing device in safe mode - same error
- deinstalling and reinstalling virtualbox - same error
- deinstalling, deleting all leftovers in \windows\system32\ (vbox*.sys) and reinstalling - same error
- disabled all running programs (antivirus, and so on) - same error
- installing 2.0.4 - same error
Thank you and kind regards
