Saving to a shared folder

Post by gstark45 »

Background: Windows vista 64 bit host, xp vbox's.

Problem: When trying to write something to a shared folder on my host, or download a file and save it to a shared folder, I get errors that the operation cannot be completed. Essentially, it won't let me do it. I have checked permissions, all seem good on the folder; what am I missing? I downloaded a file the other evening, and told the site to save the file on my vboxsvr share, but, although it says it is saving it, it doesn't. Now strangely enough, I saved it the desktop in my vbox, then copied it to the shared folder, and it didn't show up, but when I went back to the host, the file I copied was there. Then about 10 minutes later, with no intervention from me, the file was suddenly available in my shared folder from inside the virtual machine. ????????????

File changes are not in real time if you access the shared folders, or any other network resource for that matter. If you create a new folder or a file on the shared folder, hit F5 or right click then Refresh to see the file/folder.

I can honestly say I have never had a delay that long on any network resource I've ever used, and I have worked with pc's and networks for over 20 years.

I can also feel a strange behaviour about this ...

(If I am not wrong since v.1.6.x)

There is a strange problem when saving from Guest to Host and Guest to Network !

It will say that you do not have permissions to write on the folder, but if you do a file/save as, it writes properly and no error.

Sometimes when you make save, it says that it does not have write permissions, but it creates a file with 0 bytes!

I usually double (sometimes treble) check the files when it says that to me
