Problem with screen resolution in Windows XP guest...

Post by ppgrainbow »

I have a problem with the ability to make the 1280 x 800 screen resolution permanent in Windows XP guest.

I edited the <ExtraDataItem name="GUI/MaxGuestResolution" value="1280,800"/> to include screen resolutions up to 1280 x 800 in the VirtualBox.xml configuration file.

When I set the MaxGuestResolution value to "1920,1200", the only choices of display resolutions are 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1152 x 864, 1280 x 960, 1280 x 1024, 1400 x 1050 and 1600 x 1200. Although this notebook PC can display a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800, there is no option to make 1280 x 800 permanent regardless of the ability to switch between windowed and full screen.

The guest operating system, Windows XP with 1 GB of allocated memory and 64 MB of video memory resizes the screen just fine in fullscreen when I enable the Auto-Resize Guest Display.

But upon pressing Alt Gr+F key to switch to windowed view, the guest operating system reduces the display size to just 640 x 480 thus it messes up the positioning of the icons located on the bottom part of the window.

Is there any way to see the custom screen size resolution in the Windows XP guest operating system and making the screen resolution permanent without messing up the positioning of the programme icons on the guest desktop? I can include a couple of screenshots on my ImageShack account if necessary.

I have looked all over for answers on Google and on this site, but I couldn't find any solutions. :(

I recently updated the Virtual Box guest additions to version 2.0.6 yesterday, by the way.
