Hi,
since a few days I have a Thankpad X301. I just installed VirtualBox with Ubuntu 8.10. Great. All without problems.
Now my question: Since I listen music on Itunes on the Windows XP-Host, I want that my Volume-Keys (including mute) are not catched by the VM. On my old Thinkpad X60S, that was all as I want it. Why is it different on the new Laptop?
It is especially inconvenient, since the Ubuntu- Guest is not connected to the soundcard, so there is absolutly no use in this issue.
Can anyone help?

VB passes only simple input devices to the VM. So no additional multimedia is used/passed through to the VM.

thanks for your answer. I thought so too. But I can see and feel it though. So if I have an VirtualBox-Window open, the mute-button has no effect and I see ubuntu (this is my guest) reacting with something like a volume-bar.
So what can I do?

Ah, now that I re-read your post, I see your problem. You don't want the keys to be in the VM, but stay on the Host, but instead are posted to the VM. Hmm, did you use the same version of VB that you ran on your old laptop? Did you old laptop access the hardware directly?
You can always try and hit the Host key, then use the MM keys.

1) I have to check the version. I am not sure.
2) The laptop is very similar, and the keys are on the same place, but you never know
3) with host key does not work. I have to bring another window active. no clue why. and this is annoying if you work in fullscreen and want to mute, when the telefone is ringing...
