is a sound card necessary ?

Hi
I am trying to run VirtualBox-2.0.4 in Windows Server 2003 as a host OS. Does the host machine need to have a sound card to transmit audio using VRDP. I have Ubuntu as Guest OS, and the audio is not being transmitted via RDP. I am using another Windows XP machine to access the Ubuntu Guest OS via RDP.
Server host machines generally do not have audio cards, so I would assume that Vbox should be able to still support audio for the guest OS.
Any idea ?
