Windows 7 Pro can't connect to Internet

Good morning,
My Windows 7 Guest can't connect to the internet for some reason, details below. If my search missed a prior thread with answers please point me to them.

Host: MX-23.6_KDE_x64 Libretto Linux with VBox 7.1.12_Debian r169651
Guest: Windows 7 Pro SP 1 with guest additions 7.1.12

Problem: Guest can see but cannot connect to the internet. Windows Update and Activation fail with errors codes:
  • 80072EFE - unable to connect to Update servers
  • 80072F8F - invalid time date or unable to connect to Activation servers
The windows network troubleshooter indicates: The network gateway is accessible, but Windows couldn’t receive network traffic from the Internet.

Not sure if this is a Host or Guest config issue or what. Host has no issues with accessing the Internet. Also, my MOBO has 2 on-board wired Ethernet adapters; both are active and work well.

Any insight or ideas would be much appreciated.

The issue has nothing to do with VirtualBox. Microsoft's Windows 7 Activation Servers have been closed down, as have the update servers, as the OS is no longer supported, which is why you get no response other than the error messages.

You may still be able to activate using the automated telephone sevice. That worked thelast time I created a Windows 7 VM , but that was some time ago. 'Old' Windows 7 update files can still be found online, but are not available directly from Microsoft.

That's good to know about those servers.

I tried to open a web page to google .com and encountered the same issue. I dug through the network logs and found this message:

Windows can't find a computer or device named "teredo.ipv6.microsoft .com."
Windows can communicate with the name resolution server but can't find the host name.
