virtio_net virtio0: input.0:id 144 is not a head!

It's been many years since this bug was discovered, which literally breaks virtual machines if the virtio driver is specified in the adapter settings. To briefly describe the bug, at a random moment the virtio driver crashes with an error (read title) and the virtual machine is completely disconnected from the network until the VM is rebooted. Is there really still no solution for fixing such critical bug of virtio in VirtualBox on Linux guests?
