I am running on debian 12 host, version Version 7.2.0 r170228 (Qt6.8.0 on xcb) of Virtualbox and when I try to get a Debian guest to use the host USB it does not work. I have installed Oracle version exxtension pack version 7.2.0r170228 rebooted the guest and the host.
The host sees the USB but the guest never sees the host when I go to setting and select USB.
What could be the issue ?
Unable to use USB from host

Re: Unable to use USB from host
You could use either VirtualBox Shared Folder (Guest Additions required) or Network Folder sharing if you simply want to share access for viewing/reading/writing to a Host owned USB drive - VirtualBox User Guide, Section 7.3. Otherwise, the Guest VM will have to capture ownership of the UBB device - VirtualBox User Guide, Section 5.19

Re: Unable to use USB from host
There is no documented capability that I'm aware of and I know it wasn't/isn't possible with a Legacy BIOS VM setup as it was quite regularly asked and answered when supplied USB installers were far more commonly available than they are now. Direct ISO downloads are, of course, the most common supply mode; and for VMs, ISOs stored on SSD are generally easier to manage and usually more responsive than running software/'live' installers from a physical USB Thumb Drive.
I do vaguely recall some earlier discussions on the forum that suggested it might be possible to manually configure a UEFI VM setup to boot from USB, but have not personally seen any evidence/description of a successful process. A forum search might turn up some of those previous discussions on the subject.
Also, for security reasons, most 'modern' Operating Systems will be configured to prevent software from running automatically when a USB/CD/DVD/ISO is inserted. What type of 'software' is it that you want/need to run from an external USB device?

Re: Unable to use USB from host
It appears the curent version has problems reading a USB. Accessing a USB for a VM must be possible if the application is to function as a VM of a working system,
