Host Interface on Vista?

Post by mevans336 »

Hello all,

I have installed the latest VirtualBox onto a Vista SP1 host with an Ubuntu 8.04 guest. I have installed a VirtualBox Host Interface network adapter so I don't have to use NAT for my guests (borks VPN access), however, the guest OS is never able to obtain an IP address and the VirtualBox Host Interface 1 in Vista shows that it is connected to an Unidentified network.

I've forced Vista to put the VBox Host Interface adapter into the private zone, but it still won't provide an IP addresses to my Ubuntu guest. I've rebooted my Vista machine because sometimes that will clear screwy network issues, but still no go.

If I change the adapter for the guest in VirtualBox to NAT the guest can access the network, but my VPN from the guest won't work which is a deal breaker.

Any ideas?

Did you create a bridge with the virtual interface and your physical interface as described in the manual, chapter 6?
