birectional drag/drop and copy/paste not working after guest addition install

Post by ghostanime2001 »

Hi everyone, Im using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS guest on windows 10 host. My kernel headers are

linux-headers-generic
linux-headers-6.8.0-60
linux-headers-6.8.0-60-generic

and I've installed guest additions as well. I am part of the vboxsf users group too. Shared folders work but copy/paste AND drag/drop bidirectional does not work. How can I fix this ?

My environment is:
- Host: MS Windows 11 Pro. 24H2, fully patched
- VirtualBox: 7.2.0 with VB Extension Pack 7.2.0
- Guest (VM): Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Gnome desktop and VirtualBox 7.2.0 Guest Additions for Linux installed

In the VM I have the following options:
- Devices > Shared Clipboard: Bidirectional
- Devices > Drag and Drop: Bidirectional

I log on to Ubuntu by choosing "Ubuntu on Xorg" session on logon window.

I can copy and paste text and images between VM and host PC just fine.

But I cannot drag and drop files from Windows host (Windows Explorer app) to Ubuntu guest (Nautilus app) or vice versa.

How to make drag and drop work in my environment?
