Hi,
I installed a virtual XP Computer under VirtualBox.
We want to use this virtual computer on different Laptops.
To do this, I copied the *.vid on one of the laptops and used this file as an existing hdd.
When I start the computer I get a blue screen, I am not able to read the message, 'caus VirtualBox restarts immediately...
Now the question, is there something I did wrong, or is there another way of using an existing virtual mashine on another computer?
thx alot
Co2
PS: Sorry for my bad english

Make sure the VM settings on the two installs are identical. Pay particular attention to the hard disk controller type.

thx for your answer!
How can I change or check the settings for the hard disk controller?
In the settings of the computer I just find the HDD itself, not the controller...
On the other computer I use an old version of VirtualBox (1.5.0) and on the computer I created the virtual maschine I use the actual one (2.0.4).
Is it possible, that they changed the hard disk controller type between these versions?
thx alot

tried to delete that old version, but got the message that the file VirtualBox_1.5.0_Win_x86.msi is missing...
found that file in net, but windows says, that that isn't a valid installation source file...
means: I'm not able to delete the old version and am not allowed to install the new one, till the old one is away...

If you are using the GUI frontend then open up the Settings dialog for the VM, in the "General" section select the "Advanced" tab, look for the "IDE Controller Type" listbox. The selection in this listbox must match what was selected on the old host VM (*).
Also, in the "Hard Disks" section, "Enable SATA Controller" should
not be ticked (since I assume the old VM did not have SATA support).
(*) Open up the old vm .xml file to find out what type of IDE controller it had.

All the settings you describe are not present in that old version...
Seems like I have to solve the problem first, to get rid of the old version without having the original installation-file...
thx!

It doesn't matter if you don't have the new settings in the old version, you just have to make sure that those new settings are not on when using the VDI from the old version.
If you want the old installer, check
